Global Express - Friday, April 13th, 2012

Hello Everyone and welcome back to our Global Village and this Friday the 13th of April issue of Global Express! Our newsletter is published by the members of the World Wide Web Circle of Friends for the members of the World Wide Web Circle of Friends about the members of the World Wide Web Circle of Friends. We are everyday people doing extraordinary things on the web!

I thought I would start off this issue with a little bit about Victoria, the Capital City of British Columbia as it celebrates its 150th birthday this year.   Interestingly there is a fort-building contest being planned  in old Bastion Square .  Most appropriate as this is where – and how – Victoria started, as Fort Victoria, a Hudson’s Bay Company outpost named for the queen of the day.  Who would have guessed a fort would grow into one of Canada’s most picturesque and cosmopolitan cities?  Victoria is located on Vancouver Island about 2 hours from where I live and I go there often as my younger brother and mother live there.

News from Around our Globe

Some very exciting news from the Catskills ............

Bea from the Catskills proudly announces that Baby Mason has arrived at 8 pounds in Portland, Oregon.  Bea tells us that Mason is her 3rd great grandson and her granddaughter and baby are doing fine.

Here also is big brother, Cameron who is one year old in the pictures below. Bea says she can not wait to see them & hold them.

While on the topic of beautiful babies we must not forget Bea's only Great Grand Daughter, Cloe who is 3 months old.

Beautiful, beautiful children!

You might have noticed that Sharon has told us on Facebook that she has reactivated the WWWCOF Forum. This is a good place that we can communicate, or even practise our journalistic skills.  There are many topics that we can post in or comment on to suit all tastes, or members moderate topics close to their hearts, and any member can offer to moderate. ... that just means to post in your topic or comment on other's posts there.
Sometimes we would like to post, but can't think of anything to say. I'll leave it to others to tell you about the topics they moderate, I will just tell you about mine.
They are:
Over the back fence..... talk about anything at all.
Sunday from our journal.... there are headings, or just tell us about your week or what is happening.
Monday Memories......  something worth mentioning especially from years ago
Tuesday Tunes.... post a youtube... or you can post one anyday of course
Wednesday Outdoors ..... somewhere we've been or are going.
Thankful Thursday ..... something we are grateful for
Five thoughts Friday... just some quick thoughts
Weekend Snippets Saturday..... anything that has caught our interest that we would like to share.
A quick way to start our viewing of the forum is to flick down to the foot and click on 30 most recent posts, saves time looking for new posts.
Another tip.... I have logged in and created a shortcut on my desktop and now when I click on the shortcut I am straight in.... no login or password.

Some comments, tips and recommendations/suggestions from our membership on past newsletters:

Lovely newsletter as always. But, I could not add a comment. I choose "google account" nothing happens, I click on submit your comment either to put my name in there or do just that. Then I get a blank window that says " ready" at the bottom, and no comment shows up. So what's going wrong. All  the times I tried today I saw  no comments added.
What I wrote was asking for Sky train station to be explained ( mountain train, monorail??) and do we get to see your new " look"? and also that the Chinese girl would have done you a bigger favouir just giving back the empty case. LOL that way you'd get to start following the doctor's orders. Leo has one of those cases for his mobil phone and I use mine for my camera, its just the right size, and the USB cable fits right in the lighter space!

(FYI - Launched in 1986, SkyTrain is the oldest and one one of the longest fully-automated, driverless, rapid transit systems in the world. The Expo and Millennium SkyTrain Lines connect downtown Vancouver with the cities of Burnaby, New Westminster and Surrey. The Canada Line connects downtown Vancouver to the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the city of Richmond.
SkyTrain runs on a mostly elevated guideway, high above city streets, though there are a few stations located underground. The name SkyTrain is derived from the first SkyTrain line, the Expo Line.
British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd. (BCRTC), on behalf of TransLink, maintains and operates two of the three SkyTrain lines in Metro Vancouver.
Both the Expo and the Millennium lines are operated out of BCRTC’s Operations and Maintenance Centre in Burnaby, BC where more than 630 dedicated staff work in the areas of administration, engineering, elevator and escalator maintenance, field operations, vehicle maintenance and wayside maintenance.
BCRTC currently serves about 250,000 passengers per weekday and has an on-time service delivery performance rating of 95.46 per cent.)

Graeme dropped me the following note last weekend --  Well its Easter Monday over here ,have had a very quite  Easter . 30 km from here is a place called Stawell, over Easter they have an athletics meeting which ends today with the running of the Stawell Easter gift .It is the richest foot race in the southern hemisphere so as you can imagine it attracts thousands of visitors to the area .So us locals just stay at home and keep off the roads .It is a cold wet day here not much good for doing anything .We have had a very mild start to autumn temp,s have been around the mid 20,s .It has been good but it looks like it is over now. Thanks for sending me a copy of the G.E.Well i must start thinking of what to write for your next edition. Bye for now/

Of course I had to go look up this place callled Stawell and was fascinated to discover that it was a  former gold mining town  I love the similarity to my corner of the globe
as we have several of those former gold mining towns also.   Sharon

I hope each of you has a fabulous week and remember do not work too hard -- take a page out of Sammy's Book .... look what she does after all the hard work of watching the birds outside, lol.

I have had a very busy week including a belated Easter Dinner this past Saturday here with all my children and my grand children .... life does not get much better than this.  Today was my eldest grand daughter's Fifth Birthday Party and they are always such fun for young and old alike; of course she had to supervise the lighting of the candles but her mum did a great job -- Happy Happy Birthday Kadynce - may you always be happy.

I did not get the job I was competing for at the Chiropractor's Office which is a pity as I think it would of been a good one but I did get down to the last three in the interview process so I think that is something to be somewhat proud of.  Pride is a good thing but it does not pay my bills so I am still searching and tomorrow I have an interview at Nordia as a customer loyalty representative.  Again I would love for you to keep your fingers crossed for me.  It almost worked the last time and this time it WILL!!!

A good thought to hold onto for the week would be:

Help your neighbor's boat across,
and lo! your own has reached the shore.

Nice newsletter! Thanks Sharon for answering my query on Sky train. We need rails that run high above the streets, the trains here seem to be jinxed, so many accidents and crashes. We were standing at a level crossing out on a walk with the gym group, the barrier was down, when one of the ladies said " come on, let's cross, there's plenty of time". Without thinking, I said " no one crosses. The barrier is down and trains here already have their share of trouble" The teacher who was about to cross, seconded me and everyone waited patiently while a motor shunted back and forth. Daphne
